Nick Chubb went down before the pivotal Tennessee match up was a minute old and the Dawgs it the canvas. The Georgia football team recovered and valiantly punched to nine wins.

The 2015 Georgia football team rose from its own ashes Saturday with a 13 – 7 win over the hated Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Georgia came within 3 minutes of slapping the Yellow Jackets with their first home shut out since November 30, 1957, the day Theron Sapp broke the drought.

For weeks, Georgia fans, the play toy of the blogosphere, entertained the nation by whining, whimpering and whinnying at every bit of bad news – true or not – mostly not.

Why miss out on bad news just because it’s not true? (Can we get that in the fight song?)

This Bulldog football team, broken and cast aside by all, now steps to the brink of back to back ten win seasons.

How?

One, this Georgia football team is a bunch of fighters led by three marginally competent but tough-minded quarterbacks who care about nothing except winning. Two, the Dawgs got a handle on this whole defense thing.

As for details, Georgia overcame the loss of its number one offensive weapon Nick Chubb and then reclaimed the use of mini-missile Isaiah McKenzie long enough to beat Auburn.

Terry Godwin replaced Reggie Davis at wide out while finding time to prepare as the “Yard Dawg” tailback.

Offensive line adjustments moved John Theus to right tackle and Isaiah Wynn to left tackle.

Brice Ramsey is the punter.

Sony Michel transitioned to every down tailback and and rushed for over 1000 yards while playing with a broken hand, becoming the Bulldogs offensive player of the year.

Greyson Lambert kept fighting and kept getting better.

With better players in better position to make plays, the Bulldog offense plays relentlessly instead of desperately, taking advantage of the dramatic offensive line adjustments, running game additions, and experiment in the punting game.

No longer worrying over failures, the Dawg offense simply plays the next down, accepting a punt that sends the defense into battle as a win.

On defense, the Junkyard Dawg reincarnation is facilitated by an offense determined to let the defense on the field in a position of advantage. With the opportunity presented by field position, young talent gained confidence and seasoned leaders emerged.

Remarkably, no good word is yet to be written or spoken about the coaches who dragged this team out of its tomb and breathed new life into its lungs.

Given up for dead on Halloween, here the Dawgs are – not just breathing, but racing, intent on finishing the drill.

Georgia fans still whining missed a most remarkable November, but they receive no sympathy from this writer.
