13 – Pat Dye

Pat Dye wore the Red and Black from 1958-1960 and became one of Georgia best lineman of all time. A two-time first team All-SEC selection, he was awarded the honor of SEC’s Most Valuable Lineman in 1960. In addition, he also was named an All-American twice in both 1959 and 1960.

In the 1959 clash against Auburn, Dye recovered a fumble that led to Fran Tarkenton’s final-second touchdown pass to give Georgia a 14-13 win. This snapped a string of six consecutive Auburn victories in the game, and it propelled the Bulldogs to a 10-1 record and a SEC championship.

Dye would go on to coach at Auburn, winning four SEC titles in 12 years. Although he may wear the orange and blue, his impact as Georgia will never be forgotten. A product of Richmond Academy, Dye will always be considered a DGD.
