7 – David Greene

A quarterback is judged by the success of his team, and that makes David Greene one of Georgia’s all-time greats.

With David Greene under center, Georgia won 42 of 52 games, an 81% success rate, including three straight seasons of 10 or more wins, three straight bowl victories, and three consecutive national top six finishes.

Before 2002, Georgia’s last SEC Championship was 1982. David Greene delivered an SEC Championship in 2002 and a second trip to the SEC Championship Game in 2003.

Greene set NCAA records for victories by a starting quarterback, set SEC records including career-passing yards, career total offense, most consecutive passes without an interception, career ratio of attempts/interceptions, set Georgia career records including passing yards, total offense, td passes, pass efficiency, and interception percentage. He was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.

Greene combined an understanding of offensive tactics with talent – he knew where the ball needed to go and could get the ball there. Surrounded by playmakers, Greene was perfectly willing to facilitate their play making.
