6 – Terry Hoage

Hoage was the best defensive player on some of Georgia’s all-time greatest teams. Coming to UGA the same year as Herschel (1980) he was a part of the last national championship team. By his junior season in he had become a standout defensive back, and his SEC record 12 interceptions in that season is considered one that may never be broken.

He was selected as an All-American in both 1982 and 1983, while also placing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting in his senior year (1983). His historic career is also highlighted by holding the UGA record for most interceptions in a game (3 – tied with two others).

In his four years in Athens, the team posted a 43-4-1 record, won a national championship (and played for another) and won three SEC titles.

He played 13 years in the NFL and won a Super Bowl in 1992 with the Washington Redskins.
