In 2008, Jarvis Jones left Columbus Georgia’s Carver high School for the glamour of the University of Southern California. His USC career ended with medical disqualification. He came home to Georgia, the Bulldog medical staff cleared Jones to play football, and to this day USC doctors remain in hiding.
The mere presence of Jones, a two-time All-American, seemed on many occasions to prompt running backs or quarterbacks to simply drop the football.
A finalist for the 2012 Butkus, Bednarik, Lombardi and Nagurski awards, LOTT Impact Trophy, and the 2011 and 2012 Butkus Award, Jones won the 2012 CFPA Elite Linebacker Trophy.
In 2011, Jones ranked first in the SEC and tied fifth in NCAA in sacks and first in the SEC and tied-16th NCAA in tackles for loss.
In 2012, Jones finished first in the nation with a school record 14.5 sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss, leading the SEC with a school record seven forced fumbles. The Pittsburg Steelers picked Jones with the 17th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.
