Miami has found their man.

According to Mark Schlabach from ESPN, Mark Richt will be named the newest head coach of the Hurricanes. The announcement should be made official by the end of the week.

Talk about a hectic week for Richt. This past Sunday he was let go as head coach at the University of Georgia. In next two ensuing days, he was already being contacted to interview for other coaching jobs. By Wednesday, he and Miami had agreed to terms.

The fact that he was only unemployed for two days is a testament to his ability as a coach and the respect the people in college football have for him.

Richt has close ties to Miami begging the notion that these affiliations may have been the reason he took the job. He was a backup quarterback for the Hurricanes from 1979-1982 behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly. His Hurricane teams were the foundation for the future success of the program.

With the news of his hire, it is unclear whether he will coach in the Bulldogs’ upcoming bowl game. For the sake of his brilliant career in Athens, it would not be fitting if he did not receive a proper sendoff with one more victory at the helm for the Dawgs.

Miami’s quick action towards Richt seems to shine the light on the fact that the Hurricanes are desperate for a game-changing coach. The school has not won 10 games in a season since 2003 and has had three different coaches in the time Richt spent in Athens.

The Georgia faithful are still feeling a mixture of emotions about the decision to let Richt go. At least there should be some sense of happiness now in knowing that he will be impacting more lives in the coming years.

From all of the Dawn Nation, good luck Coach Richt!
