Pairing up with Muschamp is an interesting combination placing two former Georgia football players at one of the school’s biggest rivals. It seems Muschamp has no love lost for Georgia since coaching at Florida and Auburn, but McClendon may take a little longer to dismiss the Bulldog family.
McClendon’s entire coaching career has been at Georgia dating back to 2007. He worked as a graduate assistant before becoming the running backs coach in 2009, a position he retained until 2014. In 2013, he became the recruiting coordinator for the team, and his efforts in the field throughout his time in Athens were beneficial in landing Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb.
This season he worked as the assistant head coach, wide receivers coach, passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

The players that he coached highlight his work at Georgia. As running backs coach he guided Gurley, Chubb and NFL standout Isaiah Crowell who was named the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2011.
McClendon played for Georgia at the beginning of the Mark Richt era from 2002-2005. He was a part of two SEC championship winning teams with his most productive season coming in 2005 where he caught 35 passes for 529 yards and six touchdowns.
His father, Willie McClendon, played tailback for Georgia and the Chicago Bears. Willie was named SEC Player of the Year in 1978.
