Alabama may have secured the No. 1 recruiting class for 2016 on signing day, but Georgia is making moves to challenge the Crimson Tide in 2017, including flipping their only quarterback commit for next year’s class.

Jake Fromm, a pro-style quarterback, announced on Thursday that he would be flipping his verbal commitment from Alabama, who he committed to in October 2015, to the team he’s rooted for his entire life: the Georgia Bulldogs.

The 2015 Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year announced his decision on Twitter late Thursday morning.

"Officially a Dawg!! Feels good to be home!!!⚫️"

This is the first quarterback commitment for the Bulldogs’ 2017 class. It is an impressive commit for new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and his staff after the program failed to recruit a quarterback in the 2015 class.

Fromm is a Georgia native and plays for Houston County High School. In his Junior season, the talented recruit, who plays tight end from time to time for Houston County as well, led his team to an 11-2 record. He compiled 4099 yards after completing 250 of 424 pass attempts, which resulted in an average of 315 yards per game, 36 touchdown passes, and only 6 interceptions. He has drawn comparisons to Shea Patterson, who is the No. 1 quarterback in the country for 2016 according to 247 Sports.

Upon watching highlights from his 2015 season, it is easy to see why Fromm is currently ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2017 class. He can perform the necessary skills that are expected of a top-ranked quarterback like: being able to throw the ball deep, run when necessary, and extend plays by making quick decisions in chaos. When comparing Fromm to Georgia’s 2015 starter, Greyson Lambert, there are two key differences: he consistently takes his time in the pocket and is not afraid to throw the ball into tight coverage. If Lambert was able to succeed in those areas, Georgia would have been able to perform better offensively this past year.

Fromm could easily jump in the 2017 recruiting rankings throughout the 2016 season, and he may very well end up as the top quarterback of 2017 or land in a close second like Jacob Eason did in the 2016 class behind Shea Patterson.

With Fromm being a 2017 commit, Georgia will need to consistently recruit him until his signing day if they don’t want any other teams trying to flip him again. If Smart and his staff can do that, Georgia will have, not one, but two key playmakers to lead their team in 2017.
