One of those receivers that signed with Georgia was Cavin “Riley” Ridley. Ridley also enrolled early at UGA and adds depth to a position that is sorely in need of it.

However, Ridley was a surprise addition to UGA’s 2016 class. The 6-1, 198 pound Deerfield Beech, Fla., native was rated by 247sports.com as a 4-star prospect. Because of that, he was invited to January’s Under Armour All-American Game. Ridley committed to South Carolina at the Under Armour All-American Game.

It was a shock to even the top recruiting analysts that Ridley ended up in Athens. Before he committed to South Carolina and after he decommitted two days later, most people thought he would follow his brother Calvin Ridley to Alabama.

So it was definitely a surprise when Riley Ridley enrolled at the University of Georgia. Head Coach Kirby Smart and fans alike were elated by the decision as the depth at receiver had gone down in recent years.

Smart revealed to why Ridley decided to come to UGA in his press conference after Saturday’s team scrimmage according to Dawgnation.com.

“I do have a good relationship with his brother. His brother was very adamant that he wanted Riley to come here. I can’t really tell you why; I don’t know why. But he just wanted him here,” said Smart.

Smart had this to say about Ridley’s play in the scrimmage.

“He rolled in there with the twos today, and he went with the threes as well… He’s a competitive kid, and he’s tough. He’s got to work on his vertical speed; he’s not a super fast guy. But he’s a kid from South Florida that is not afraid to compete. He blocks. He tries really hard, and it’s important to him that he does well,” said Smart.

Ridley has always been thought of more as a possession receiver. If he can play anything like his brother, he will be a valuable asset to Georgia.

Kirby Smart and UGA Wide Receivers Coach James Coley are trying to build back up the depth in the Bulldogs’ receiving corps that has dwindled in the past few years. Ridley’s addition will help do just that.
