Controversy has surrounded Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh and his plans to host satellite camps in SEC territory since the news was released in February.
Buried in an announcement about academic integrity, the NCAA announced on Friday an approved proposal that bans Football Bowl Subdivision schools from practicing at any place other than their school’s facilities or facilities regularly used for practice or competition.

This update comes after Kirby Smart wasn’t afraid to comment on Jim Harbaugh’s plans to host a Satellite camp in June at IMG Academy.
"They’re obviously trying to gain a competitive advantage and that’s their right. But I think the NCAA in due time will have to step in. …There’s a lot of factors that people don’t think about in that deal. You’ve gotta think about recruiting rules, how are they going to handle those, is it an advantage, disadvantage? Are they gonna let other coaches come to it, are they gonna hold open practices? Do we all come in there and watch them and scout them? If they’re all open practices why don’t we go and watch them. It’s a Pandora’s Box of what it’s going to get into, obviously."
Harbaugh shot back at the new Bulldog coach on Twitter, which caused media outlets to then take notice at the seriousness of the issue that was emerging between SEC coaches and coaches like Harbaugh who want to host camps outside of their own practice facilities.
This new ruling by the NCAA will halt Harbaugh and other coaches’ plans to travel away from campus this summer in an effort to potentially recruit in other team’s and conferences’ territory.
Smart was thought to have been planning a camp away from home for the Bulldogs after Harbaugh’s plans didn’t immediately cause this ruling by the NCAA, but now, the Bulldogs will practice at home like the rest of the FBS teams.
