Satellite camps are a go, and Kirby Smart was not caught off guard.

The NCAA Board of Directors revisited the satellite camp issue and lifted the ban on them on Thursday. Consequently, the SEC has lifted their ban as a conference on these camps as well. It was the biggest news in college football except that it was somewhat overshadowed by the Ole Miss and Tunsil NFL Draft debacle.

Anyway, Kirby Smart said he was going to be prepared if satellite camps were ever a reality in college football. They are now, and Smart has already made three major plans. First is an unconfirmed report that UGA will be a part of a satellite camp taking place at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., in June.

The second is that UGA will attend a satellite camp held in Stockbridge, Ga., on June 9-10. The third is the biggest news. Kirby Smart and UGA and Jim Harbaugh and Michigan will co-host a camp at Cedar Grove High School in Atlanta.

It’s kind of funny because Jim Harbaugh and Kirby Smart have not always seemed to the best of friends. However, they same to be putting aside their differences in forming this camp. (Actually, the more plausible answer is that Kirby Smart wants to be their so Harbaugh has less of a chance at stealing Georgia’s recruits.)

Ultimately, satellite camps will be a good thing for college football. The main people it will help will probably be less known players and smaller schools that attend or host these camps.

The NCAA actually seemed to get something right for once. This will help players tremendously and should further close the gap on some high school football players not getting to the next level or getting scholarships.

This ruling is definitely the fair thing to do. Like all good things, it can be abused, and the NCAA will have to keep a close eye out for any potential violations concerning the satellite camps.

Kirby Smart’s quick reaction and strong leadership when it comes to satellite camps has to be encouraging to Georgia fans. Kirby Smart is showing by his actions that he is not backing down for anyone. Smart is showing once more that UGA will take all the steps necessary in order to be successful.
