4. QB Baker Mayfield – Oklahoma

Baker Mayfield is one of the top dual-threat signal-callers in the nation. The Texas Tech transfer thrived in his first season at Oklahoma as he led the Sooners to a CFB Playoff appearance in 2015.

Mayfield had a heck of a season last year as he threw for 3,700 yards and 36 touchdowns and added 405 additional yards on the ground. He threw for over 300 yards in six different games including in the CFB Playoff Semifinal against a good Clemson defense.

The first time the country knew Mayfield was legit was last September against Tennessee. Mayfield and Oklahoma were down by three scores and Mayfield brought the Sooners back by tossing three touchdown passes to win in overtime. It was impressive to say the least.

Mayfield has not only got a great arm but comes through in the clutch. He was the main reason Oklahoma were as good as they were in 2015 and are on the shortlist of teams to make the playoff this season.

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said his quarterback is still trying to improve according to the Dallas News,

“He’s already improved his body. I was teasing him just the other day and I said ‘Baker, you’ve improved your body.’ He’s leaned up, gained strength and quickness, but he’s eliminated some body fat. He’s stronger and hasn’t lost weight.”

Mayfield was one of the most impressive quarterbacks last year and should only improve. He should end up as a Heisman contender late in the season unless something unforeseen happens.
