Kirby Smart has to be happy with the (almost) addition of Herrien to his Georgia Football team.

Brian Herrien would be a welcome addition to UGA’s running back corps. According to the AJC’s Jeff Sentell, he will sign with his school of choice on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Don’t kid yourself, all signs point to Herrien signing at UGA. Herrien didn’t take part of the signing day festivities like most other players due to academic issues. The class of 2016 prospect is now able to qualify for UGA and is pretty much a lock to make Athens his collegiate destination.

Signing Herrien would do a lot for Kirby Smart’s team. First off, although Herrien wasn’t very highly recruited, he seems to be a promising running back prospect that had fallen through the cracks until UGA found him.

Herrien has the potential to be a very good back on the college level. He has good speed as well as the ability to break tackles. If a person looks at his tape, they’ll be very surprised he wasn’t offered by another SEC school.

Probably his biggest thing he’s got going for him is his size at 6-0, 200 pounds. The Douglasville, Ga., native also proved very effective as well. After all, he was 2015’s top rusher in the state of Georgia with 1,873 yards on the ground with an 8.3 yards per carry average. He also scored 14 touchdowns.

Herrien will bring depth to the UGA backfield and should see some playing time in 2016 especially since Nick Chubb’s status is still up in the air. Herrien will join fellow running back signee and 4-star prospect Elijah Holyfield on campus this fall.

Herrien’s signing ceremony on Tuesday will basically be a formality. He is all Dawg. Herrien even said, “Georgia is 100 percent where I will go to play college ball,” two months ago in an interview with Dawg Nation.

The late addition of Herrien will have to be encouraging to UGA fans. It’s never a bad thing to add more bodies to a position where injuries will occur. It’s just part of the game. Although Herrien hasn’t been highly recruited, he could prove to be a hidden gem.
