Todd Gurley says UGA is RBU and he’s right
By Jay Hawkins
Former UGA star running back Todd Gurley praised his school as Running Back U. and dissed LSU this week.

Todd Gurley is one of the greatest players to ever play at the University of Georgia. It’s a shame he was never rewarded with a championship.
The now Pro Bowl running back and NFL Rookie of the Year from the Los Angeles Rams talked to TMZ Sports outside of LAX airport in Los Angeles, Calif., on Wednesday.
In the interview, Gurley was asked about incoming running back Elijah Holyfield, and Gurley had some positive things to say about the son of the legendary boxer Evander Holyfield.
But the main thing that stood out that Gurley said in this interview was that Holyfield just adds to the running back history they have at UGA. He then proceeded to take a dig at LSU.
“That’s what we do at Georgia, we breed running backs. We’re Running Back U. LSU might think they’re Running Back U. Y’all after us and then maybe Bama.”
While LSU is no stranger to talented running backs, Gurley is pretty spot-on in his analysis. Georgia and Alabama are the two teams that have the best argument for the title of Running Back U in my opinion.
Just look at the guys each school has had at the position. For Alabama, they have had loads of talent at the running back position recently. The Tide have had obviously last year’s Heisman winner Derrick Henry and the school’s first Heisman winner in Mark Ingram in 2009. Eddie Lacy starred in Tuscaloosa and has done good things at the Green Bay Packers in the NFL.
Heck, even Trent Richardson was taken No. 3 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. Granted he didn’t do much of anything on the next level, but he was still a great college back. Before them, Johnny Musso, Shaun Alexander, and others headlined the talented running back position at Alabama.
However, Georgia also has a great case to claim the title of Running Back U. Just look at the talent they have had at the position over the years.
This year UGA has a Heisman hopeful in Nick Chubb returning, Todd Gurley in 2012-2014 and Knowshon Moreno before him. No one can forget Garrison Hearst either as he finished third in the Heisman voting in 1992, was named SEC POY and won the Doak Walker Award.
However, the best running back in the history of UGA and college football is Herschel Walker. (Sorry, Bo Jackson you’re the best athlete not the best back.)
Walker plied his trade in Athens in the early ’80s and led his Bulldogs to a national championship in his true freshman season in 1980 and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982. He is one of the most iconic players in the history of college football and is still revered as a god in Athens.

Before him, Frank Sinkwich became UGA’s first Heisman winner in 1942, and Charley Trippi was the greatest college football player ever according to legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant.
There are many other talented running backs that have come through the University of Georgia, and that’s why Todd Gurley is not off track. Alabama may have the best recent history of producing more top running backs, but Georgia has history to back them up.
Although one could make an argument for other schools, Georgia is the real Running Back U. They have the history to back it up. Then again, the guy they got on campus now (Nick Chubb) isn’t too shabby either.
