Georgia baseball saw another player snatched up on the second day of the 2016 MLB Draft.

Stephen Wrenn, a star center fielder for the Diamond Dogs, was selected in the sixth round (187th overall) by the Houston Astros on Friday afternoon.

Wrenn, who is the second Georgia player drafted this year after Robert Tyler went in round one Thursday, was Georgia’s iron man during his tenure with the program, tallying 162 starts, including all 54 games of the 2015 season.

He had a solid freshman campaign, as he batted .254, recorded 54 hits and 24 walks and stole a team-high 16 bases. Wrenn built upon his rookie season with a breakout performance as a sophomore.

Wrenn belted eight home runs in 2015 after not hitting one as a freshman. He had the best batting average on the team (.324) and also led the Diamond Dogs in hits, runs and stolen bases.

Georgia looked to Wrenn to help lead the program this past season, as he was named a second-team preseason All-American by D1Baseball.com and a second-team preseason All-SEC player by conference coaches. One week before the 2016 season began, Wrenn suffered a facial injury during a team scrimmage.

He sat out for Georgia’s opening series and returned for the second week of the season. Later, he battled an illness, which affected a few of his teammates, too, costing him some more time. Wrenn was still able to impress. He batted .297 with five homers, 12 stolen bases and 26 RBIs.

The Diamond Dogs could still lose a few more players to the professional ranks. Heath Holder, Connor Jones and Skyler Weber could all entice MLB teams enough to warrant a draft selection. The draft concludes tomorrow.
