Add two more names to the list of Georgia Bulldogs named to national college football award watch lists.

Greg Pyke saw his name on the 2016 Outland Trophy Watch List early Friday morning. The award is given only to interior offensive or defensive linemen.
If Pyke is named to the yearly Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America team, then he will become eligible for the award. The FWAA All-America Committee picks its 26 bests players for the All-America first team, from which three finalists for the Outland Trophy are taken.
Pyke, a senior guard, should be an important feature of Georgia’s offensive line, which should be slightly more inexperienced than in years past. The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 8. The awards ceremony will air live on ESPN.
Lorenzo Carter was the other player added to a watch list Friday. The junior inside linebacker was included on the 2016 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List. The trophy is awarded annually by the Charlotte Touchdown Club to the best defensive player in the United States. This year’s winner will be announced on December 5.

Carter was a highly-touted recruit out of high school, and was one of Georgia’s biggest signees on national signing day in 2014. Since then, his career has been mostly inconsistent.
He recorded 41 tackles – including 4.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss – in his freshman season. Carter couldn’t avoid the sophomore slump the next year, though.
In 2015, Carter only made 19 total tackles. None of them were for loss, and none of them were sacks. His production should increase this year, as he will have to play more to compensate for the loss of Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins.
Pyke and Carter have done enough in the past to catch the attention of these award presenters, but now their charge is doing enough to win the honors.
