Yes, in a sad turn of events, the linebacker has decided to leave the team permanently and is seeking to transfer. Kimbrough decided to leave because he was unhappy with his situation at the program.

According to his Twitter account, it really hurt to leave because he loves the UGA fans, but he did not really click with the new coaching staff, and it was a family decision.

Kimbrough’s father elaborated further to Online Athens about the situation,

“He just made a decision to leave in his best interest. It has to do with some other stuff. He didn’t get into trouble or nothing like that. It’s just in our best interests. We’re from Indiana, and it’s kind of hard. I can’t do everything 600 miles away and get information like I’m supposed to. He just was very unhappy.”

This is bad news for UGA because, although Kimbrough was practicing with the second team inside linebackers in fall camp, he was Georgia’s top returning tackler. Kimbrough will  transfer to a FCS or Division II school, so he can play right away and not have to sit out a year.

Kimbrough was a tough, hard-hitting player that will be missed by UGA fans. However, the inside linebacker position should still be in pretty good shape with guys like Natrez Patrick, Reggie Carter, Roquan Smith and Juwan Taylor manning the position. But Kimbrough’s transfer is still not a good thing to happen so close to the season.
