When Georgia’s Women’s Soccer team opens their regular season tonight, revenge will certainly be on their minds.

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls come to Athens to face Georgia in a rematch from last year, in which the Cowgirls won in convincing fashion in Stillwater. Georgia lost by a final score of 4-0.

Although the game only marked an early season non-conference loss for UGA, the rest of the season followed along the same path. Georgia finished the season at a disappointing 5-12-1, their worst season since 2004-2005.

However, it seems Georgia has plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about the new season. According to GeorgiaDogs.com, Georgia returns 8 starters from last year’s squad. The group includes Marion Crowder, the team’s leading scorer from last year.

In addition, the team returns goalie Louise Hogrell, who led the SEC in saves last season. In preparation for the new season, the team has played two exhibition games which have produced generally positive results.

On August 11th, the team traveled to Greenville, SC to take on the Lady Paladins. Georgia dominated the contest, defeating Furman by a final score of 4-1.

Four different Lady Bulldogs found the back of the net according to GeorgiaDogs.com, as Bria Washington, Mariel Gutierrez, Katie MacGinnitie and Lauren Tanner all scored goals.

Three days later, Georgia faced off with in-state foe Georgia Southern and battled the Eagles to a 1-1 draw in Athens. Despite not winning, GeorgiaDogs.com reported that the Lady Dawgs had 25 shots against the Eagles’ defense.

Georgia will certainly need to convert those shots into goals on Friday night if they hope to defeat Oklahoma State.

For those hoping to go out and attend the game, Georgia and Oklahoma State square off at 7 pm tonight.

The game is to be played at the Turner Soccer Complex off Milledge Ave. Both parking and admission are free. The game can also be seen on SEC Network+.
