This weekend we saw something we may see for years to come – Nick Chubb dominating on Sunday.

Chubb ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns against South Carolina Sunday afternoon, in a game that was moved from Saturday because of Hurricane Matthew. In fact, the Georgia running game was the story of the day, accumulating 326 yards. The Dawgs nearly produced three separate 100 yard rushers in Chubb, Sony Michel and Brian Herrien.
With his performance, Chubb now sits at the edge of history. With 2,840 rushing yards in his career, the junior now sits fifth on Georgia’s career rushing list. Chubb passed Knowshon Moreno early in Sunday’s contest, and now sits only 445 yards away from passing Todd Gurley for second all time.
Only Lars Tate and Garrison Hearst separate Chubb from Gurley. However, the distance between Gurley and all-time rushing leader Herschel Walker is truly staggering. Walker accumulated 5,259 yards in his three-year career at Georgia, almost 2,000 yards more than Todd Gurley.
However, Chubb’s total is remarkable in the grand scheme of things. The Cedartown native has produced these totals despite missing over half of last year with a knee injury. The list also shows the incredible nature of Georgia’s running back depth over the past half decade. The idea of having two of Georgia’s all-time top three running backs in such close succession is a wild thought.
Sony Michel could soon be joining the elite ranks of Georgia running backs as well. Michel gained 133 yards on Sunday and now has 1,876 yards in his career. With Michel looking to soon eclipse the 2,000 yard mark, Georgia is looking at one of their most dynamic 1-2 punches in their history.

Much speculation has been drawn to the potential of having these two for another season in Athens. With Chubb and Michel both being juniors going to the NFL early can be tempting, but there is always the chance that they forego the NFL Draft and return for their senior seasons.
With his knee injuries, Chubb is seen as more likely to make the leap to the NFL. However, with a particularly deep running back class that includes the likes of Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook, Michel may want to weigh his options.
No matter where these two are next year, watch them with great fervor. We may not see a dynamic 1-2 punch like this at Georgia for a long time to come.
