4. Georgia’s Olympians

Georgia Bulldogs brought 10 medals back from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Swimmer Allison Schmitt was the only Bulldog to win two medals, she won gold in the 4×200 freestyle relay and silver in the 4×100 freestyle relay.

Most of the medals came from swimming which isn’t surprising as Georgia has one of the best swimming programs in the country. Melanie Margalis, Olivia Smoliga, and Gunnar Bentz won gold and Amanda Weir and Chase Kalisz won silver for the United States. Brittany MacLean and Chantal Van Landeghem won bronze for Candada.

Shaunea Miller is the only Bulldog to win a medal in a sport other than swimming. She won gold in the 400-meter run for the Bahamas.

In total, 28 Bulldogs competed in the Olympics in swimming, track and field, gymnastics, golf, table tennis and women’s indoor volleyball.
