The case for Edwards

Edwards is a tall guy at 6’9 and he has a great wingspan. He’s not the largest player on the court, but he is solid on both ends of court. He’s also shown the ability to be a scorer.

He had 11 points in the loss to Marquette going 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 at the foul line. He scored 10 points against Gardner-Webb and eight against George Washington and Furman.

Him and Derek Ogbeide are the only players other than Frazier and Maten to score in double figures in a game this year. But unlike Ogbeide he’s done it twice. Edwards is also really good from the foul line, so far this season he is 15-of-23.

His worst shooting game of the year so far came against Morehouse where he only scored three points, went 1-of-2 from the field and 1-of-4 from the line. But he also had a season high eight rebounds in that game. He has 36 rebounds in four games this season, good enough for forth on the team.

He has not had that great game yet, but he’s had enough flashes of brilliance to warrant more opportunities from coach Fox. The center of Georgia’s game plan isn’t going to move away from Maten or Frazier any time soon, but Georgia needs that third guy to turn to when they’re contained. Mike Edwards should be that guy.
