The 2017 Georgia football class sits at 23 commitments but there are still several more top prospects out there who could really push this already stellar class over the top. The class is currently ranked No.3 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC.
Updated: 2/1/17 3pm
3pm: With that Jamyest Williams commitment, UGA is essentially done! 26 players in its class and the #3 overall class in the country secured, Georgia had a big push today signing 3 corner backs. Latavious Brini, Ameer Speed and Eric Stokes will all bring length and talent to the back end of UGA’s defense.
There were no shock flips and Georgia was able to hold together the rest of their class. While other schools were much busier today, UGA simply went about its business and signed all its commits. Despite a couple of high profile misses, Dawg fans should be pleased. Nobody gets them all but Kirby and Co have brought in one of the best classes in UGA history!
2.43pm: Jamyest Williams decides to stick with his commitment to South Carolina. Not surprising considering the other recruits that were signed today but still sad to see such a great kid go play his football out of state.
2.23pm: Kirby Smart confirms that he has received Latavious Brini’s LOI at his 2.15pm press conference. He also says that he is not expecting any more commitments so it looks like Jamayest Williams is sticking with the Gamecocks.
2pm: In a bit of a surprise, Latavious Brini has recommitted to UGA. Brini was a commit back in August but wanted to see what other options he had. All of the reports seemed to suggest he would be staying in Florida with FIU but he comes back to Georgia on signing day. This probably means Jamyest Williams is staying with South Carolina unfortunately but UGA has really strengthend its secondary this signing day.
12.43pm: No news for a while now as the lunchtime break seems to be in full effect. Latavious Brini is set to announce shortly and he is a possible take for UGA. If he were to sign, it would likely be the death nail in any possibility of Jamyest Williams joining the UGA class.
11.52am: That’s the last one! Jaden Hunter, the OLB double legacy files his paperwork with UGA, bring its commitments to 25. That means all of the known commitments going into the day plus the two cornerbacks have been secured. Probably room for one or two more players but with many having already made their decision, the question is who.
11.12am: Markaviest Bryant commits to Aubrun. A bit of a miss here for UGA although I can see why he may have gone to Auburn. They desperately needed him to make their class (which is weak by their standards) better whereas at UGA, he would be the 3rd or 4th best pass rusher this year. Sad to see him go though, he’s raw but has top level talent.
11am: OT D’Antne Demery’s LOI has been received by UGA, meaning that there is only one more letter waiting from its list of commitments. Markaviest ‘Big Cat’ Bryant is expected to announce soon.
10.48am: Netori Johnson’s team mate and fellow guard Justin Schaffer has sent in his paperwork and officially joined the dawgs. He’s another under the radar prospect who could one day start on the interior for UGA. Devonte Wyatt has also signed, meaning that Jaden Hunter and D’Antne Demery are the only commits whose paperwork is outstanding.
10.28am: Aubrey Solomon makes the decision a lot were expected and picks Michigan. Nothing more UGA could have done on this one but always a shame to see a top talent to leave the state.
10.18am: On a more positive note, Walter Grant has signed his LOI to attend UGA. Playing down in Cairo GA, he’s an underrated prospect who can play anywhere in the line-backing corp.
10.15am: Reports are out there that the reason Larrell Murchinson has delayed his commitment that was supposed to be made at 8am is because UGA pulled his offer late last night. Whether that’s because they received a late verbal commit from someone else, who knows.
10.08am: 1 more down, only 5 left to go. Matt Landers, the 6-5 wide receiver from Florida sends his paperwork over to UGA. He’s the lowest ranked player in this class but his size means that he could become an intriguing option in the red zone.
9.53am: Guard Netori Johnson sends in his LOI to Georgia. He’s a BIG man who has a serious shot at starting at some point in his freshman year.
9.46am: Lee County big DT Aubrey Soloman will make his decision in just over half an hour. The best in State player left for Georgia, he is more than likely going to sign with either Michigan or Alabama although to be honest, nobody really knows what he’s going to do.
9.42am: After a bit of a lull, a few more LOI’s have dropped in. Isaiah Wilson, the big OT from Brooklyn and Malik Herring, a DE from Forsyth GA have both sent over their paperwork.
9.03am: First semi-shock of the day for me. Brookwood LB Leonard Warner signs with Florida State over Stanford and UGA. While it never looked like Georgia had room for him in their class, he looked like a certainty to go to Palo Alto.
9.01am: TD Slaton, the #3 ranked guard who might end up as a DT has signed with his in state school, the Florida Gators. UGA was on the table for his announcement, but the Gators were always favorites.
8.47am: Vidalia linebacker Nate McBride signs his LOI with UGA. One of the most athletic linebackers in the country, he is blazingly fast. Apparently he runs 100 meters faster than Mecole Hartman…
8.36am: Robert Beal reaffirms his commitment and signs his LOI to Georgia. There were rumors about his potentially flipping to South Carolina but he has stuck with the dawgs.
8.28am: UGA adds its second commit of the day and its another cornerback, Ameer Speed. Thats 2 of possibly 4 spots left in the team filled, so UGA’s class is starting to look rather full.
8.22am: Here come the Trays/Treys. Tray Brishop and Trey Blount have both signed their letters of intent for Georgia.
8.18am: We have our first new commit! 3 Star CB Eric Stokes has committed to UGA. He has blazing speed and is one of the fastest players in the class but is very raw so will need time. What does this mean for UGA’s hopes of flipping Jamyest Williams?
8.12am: Pace Academy OT Andrew Thomas signs his letter of intent.
8am: First Letters of intent submitted by 3 current commits, William Poole III, Mark Webb Jr and D’Andre Swift. Rumors started flying around last night that Webb was considering flipping to Penn State after his father tweeted that they were pushing hard, but he filed his paperwork to UGA first thing this morning.
