As some of the details of the Trenton Thompson story began to emerge this past week, I found myself temporarily reacting as so many of us do as fans. I thought about how it would affect the Georgia Bulldogs football team in the fall.
I let my fandom override my compassion. While I felt bad for him, I also found myself thinking about the possibility of maneuvering through a tough SEC road schedule without a young man who should be the best player on the 2017 Georgia defense. A man who has a future NFL talent and can be a game changer. I felt bad about focusing on that once I really thought about the severity of the situation.

Thompson and those who truly care about him need to focus on his health above all other things right now. He is obviously dealing with some serious issues. Issues that are bigger than football. It is likely that at this point in time, very few people really know what is going on with him. Although we write about news here at DotD, we should never put our desire for that news ahead of a persons privacy.
I hope for nothing but the best for this young man. I would love to see him back in Athens wearing the red and black and wreaking havoc on opposing offenses eventually. Even more than that, though, I sincerely hope and pray whatever issues he is dealing with are a thing of the past very soon.
I hope that the rest of our fanbase can join me in putting compassion before fandom.
