6. Knowshon Moreno

From 1976-1992, Georgia had nine seasons where a running back ran for 1,000 yards. But after 1992, Georgia only had one thousand-yard rusher in the following 15 years.

Then along came Knowshon Moreno. The running back position prior to 2007 was held by the group of Thomas Brown, Kregg Lumpkin and Danny Ware and the three of them were slated to be seniors in 2007 while Moreno was a redshirt freshman.

Then Ware left early to go to the NFL. Lumpkin got injured early in the season. All of the sudden, Moreno was the backup to Thomas Brown. Moreno had a great start to the year as a backup however, he even had a 100-yard game in the 16-12 loss to South Carolina.

But when Brown fell to an injury against Tennessee and Moreno was thrown into the spotlight, the season looked to be lost after a 6-2 start. Then Moreno ran for 157 yards in the close win over Vanderbilt.

However, Moreno’s real coming out party came two weeks later against Florida. He carried the ball 33 times for 188 yards that day and Georgia won 42-30. Moreno rushed for 100 yards five times in Georgia’s final six regular season games. He finished the season with 1,334 yards and 14 touchdowns. His rushing yards was second in school history for a freshman and is still fourth all-time.

In 2008, Moreno became the first Georgia Bulldog since Herschel Walker to have consecutive 1,000-yard seasons making him only the second player in school history to do so.

He rushed for 1,400 yards with 30 touchdowns that year before leaving to go to the NFL after his redshirt sophomore season. His 1,400 yards is second behind only Walker for a sophomore in Georgia football history.

He ended his career in Athens with 2,734 yards and 30 touchdowns, both are sixth in school history. His career stats were amazing considering he only played two seasons of Georgia football.
