Honorable Mention: Dr. Charles Herty

he only coached Georgia football for one year but it’s a pretty important year. Herty brought football to the University of Georgia and on January 30th of that year, they played their first game against Mercer. Georgia won that game 50-0.

Their last game of that year was on February 20th, in Atlanta, Georgia against Auburn, starting the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. Georgia lost that game 10-0 to go 1-1 in their first official season.

Herty gave up head coaching duties afterwards but he’s forever known as the man who got Georgia playing the sport of football. 120-plus years of tradition begins with Herty.
