The Georgia Baseball team wrapped up non-conference play Wednesday with an 8-7 victory over Presbyterian. The Diamond Dawgs are now 8-10 headed into their first SEC series at LSU. The tigers are currently ranked #6 in the USA Today coaches’ poll.
The Good:
Starting pitcher Chase Adkins has been the brightest star for the Dawgs. He’s started 4 games and look at these amazing stats. He’s 3-0 with a 2.08 Earned Run Average (ERA) and he’s struck out 20 batters in only 26 innings pitched.
Catcher/DH Michael Curry has been hot at the plate all season. He’s started all 18 games for Georgia, 8 at catcher and 10 as the designated hitter. Curry is batting .294 with 5 home runs and 22 runs batted in. He leads the team in all 3 categories.
The Diamond Dawgs have won some tough games this season, they including taking a series at Georgia Southern 2 games out of 3. That being said, with the team currently 8-10, there has been a lot more bad than good this season so far.
The Bad:
Whie Beating Georgia Southern is good, they are hardly a world beating program. The Dawgs have also lost several games and series they should have won. The Dawgs dropped a series to; The College of Charleston, Mercer, and Rider. Those are some pretty small schools and bulldog fans are probably wondering just how they managed to lose to all of them.
They also split a series with Xavier and lost another match to Kennesaw State. This is a pretty tough start against much easier opposition then the Dawgs are likely to face going forward. With SEC play starting tomorrow, UGA are going to need some much improved performances if the season is going to amount to much.

Georgia has series’ against LSU, Auburn and Tennessee to round out the month. Georgia is not in a very good place, currently bottom of the table in the east with the only losing record in the entire SEC. It’s going to need to start winning against better teams or the season could end up spiraling pretty quickly.
