5. Rodney Hampton
The last player on this list to not spend his entire career playing for Ray Goff is Rodney Hampton who would have definitely been higher had he spent more of his career with Goff. But Hampton’s best year of his career was the one year he did play for him.
As a junior in 1989, Hampton rushed for 1,059 yards on 218 carries with 12 touchdowns. He added 219 receiving yards on 26 catches.
He spent his first two years as a backup running back for Vince Dooley. In 1987 he was Lars Tate’s backup but he still rushed for 890 yards on 126 carries with four touchdowns. His sophomore year was spent backing-up Tim Worley, but he ended that year with 719 yards on 129 carries with six touchdowns.
His career totals include 2,668 rushing yards which is sixth in school history and was third at the time. He also had 22 touchdowns and 438 receiving yards.
Hampton went to the NFL in 1990 where he was drafted by the New York Giants. he became one of the best running backs in Giants history and even held the record for most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons until it was broken by Tiki Barber.
