Georgia Baseball gets swept by LSU

The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team was swept this weekend by the #6 LSU Tigers. Georgia falls to 8-13 overall and 0-3 in conference play. LSU improves to 16-5 overall and 3-0 in SEC play.

Game 1

Georgia came out strong in the top of the 1st. They scored 4 runs in the top frame but gave LSU 2 in the bottom half of the 1st. Then, LSU would break it open with 4 of their own in the second inning, taking a 6-4 lead. Georgia would strike in the top half of the 5th for 3 runs, now trailing LSU 9-8. LSU would answer with 4 in the bottom of the 5th, 7 in the 6th, and would eventually go on to win 22-9.

The winning pitcher for LSU was Austin Bain. He threw 2.2 innings, gave up 1 run, and struck out 3. LSU shortstop Kramer Robertson and left fielder Antoine Duplantis had magnificent games. Kramer went 5-5, reaching base 7 times. He also drove in a run. Duplantis went 6-6 with 7 RBIs.

Georgia pitcher Andrew Gist took the loss on the mound. He gave up 6 runs in only 1.1 innings pitched. Gist falls to 0-2 on the season. Cam Sheppard went 4-5 with an RBI. Will Campbell went 3-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs.

Game 2

This game wasn’t near as high scoring as game 1. LSU won 5-1 mostly due to a great pitching performance by Jared Poche’. He pitched 7 innings, giving up only 1 run and striking out 5. Poche’ improved to 5-0 on the season.

Tony Locey was the losing pitcher for Georgia. He threw 4.1 innings. He gave up 4 runs on just 3 hits, but struggled with the strike zone walking 4. Locey falls to 2-3 on the season. Keegan McGovern had the best day at the plate for Georgia. He went 2-3, knocking in the only run for the Dawgs.

Game 3

Georgia made 4 errors in the 7-6 loss to LSU in game 3. The Dawgs trailed 7-4 going into the final inning. They scored 2 runs and almost beat the Tigers.

Eric Walker took home the win for the Tigers. He tossed 6 innings, struck out 8 batters, and gave up only 3 runs. Right fielder Greg Deichmann knocked in 2 runs for LSU and went 1-3.

Chase Adkins suffered his first loss of the season for the Dawgs. Adkins falls to 3-1 after being the only bright spot on the mound for Georgia. Adkins gave up 4 runs in 4.1 innings. Will Proctor went 2-3 with his 3rd home run of the season, and 3 RBIs.

Georgia has a huge week coming up. They desperately need some wins. Georgia is a young team that needs confidence. If they have another bad week, this team could spiral out of control.
