While the top two running backs might be set, the battle for #3 is a huge one. Sony Michel and Nick Chubb will end up with 90% of the carries, but that 10% remaining will be a huge opportunity for both Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield.

With both Chubb and Michel being seniors, both will be departing after 2017.  Whoever wins the #3 job will have a clearer path to the starting job in 2018. Even with D’Andre Swift and another top RB recruit coming in, the incumbent will have a real shot to hold onto the spot.

Therefore expect Herrien and Holyfield to fight it out in a hotly contested contest. Last spring, Holyfield looked terrific before an ankle injury derailed his freshman year. Herrien stepped in and looked much better than his recruitment stock suggested and showed the mentality of a true grinder.

Battles like this are one of the reasons that UGA has received the moniker of ‘RB U’ the past few years and fans should keep an eye out on these two players. Chances are, one of them is going to end up having a big impact at some point for the dawgs.
