Despite finishing the regular season 10-2 and not winning the SEC East. Georgia football fans still had a reason to be optimistic about the Bulldogs national championship hopes. Fans were given more vindication when Missouri and West Virginia lost on championship weekend, Georgia should’ve moved up to no. 2 in the nation.

Yet 11-2 LSU took the no. 2 spot despite ending the regular season 4-2 while Georgia was 6-0 in that same stretch. The Bulldogs were also on a six-game win streak and LSU lost their last regular season game.

We can talk all day about how Georgia was mistreated by the BCS or how winning a conference had never before been a prerequisite for going to the National Championship game. But if Georgia had just beaten either South Carolina or Tennessee that year, it would not have mattered.

I could have chosen either game for this list, but I’m choosing Tennessee because historically it’s a lot closer of a rivalry than Georgia vs. South Carolina.

Changing that result would have put Georgia at 11-1 and champions of the SEC East. A win over LSU would have given the Bulldogs a game against Ohio State in New Orleans to decide the National Championship.
