7. 1971 vs Auburn

Told you we’d see more of Auburn on this list. This game is significant only because it kept Georgia from going undefeated in the regular season and possibly winning a National Championship.

Both squads were undefeated going into the game, but Auburn, led by Heisman Winner Pat Sullivan defeated the Bulldogs 35-20 in Athens. Auburn lost to undefeated Alabama two weeks later, giving the Crimson Tide the SEC Championship.

Had Georgia beaten Auburn, they would have split the SEC title with Alabama with both teams being 11-0. Alabama would have still gone on to play Nebraska, who beat them and was named National title. But Georgia could have still played North Carolina in the Gator Bowl (which they won 7-3) or they could have played Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl (who beat Auburn 40-22).

Regardless, it would have been at least one more SEC title for Vince Dooley and the Georgia Bulldogs.
