Georgia football received a much needed boost in 1964 when they hired Vince Dooley to be the new head coach. In just his third season in Athens, the Bulldogs finished 10-1 and won the SEC Championship.

The Miami Hurricanes were the only team to defeat the Bulldogs that year. Georgia was 6-0 in SEC play making them co-champions with Alabama. The Crimson Tide were the only team with a perfect record in 1966. Michigan State and Notre Dame were also named National Champions with 9-0-1 records (their one tie was against each other).

If the Bulldogs had just scored two more points against the Hurricanes, they would have also gone undefeated and possibly have won a share of the 1966 National Championship.
