3. 1983 vs. Auburn

The game that ended one of the greatest periods in Georgia football history. Herschel Walker was gone, but the Bulldogs were still winning ball games. Georgia entered the 1983 Auburn game 8-0-1, Auburn was 8-1, both were undefeated in SEC play.

Georgia lost by only six points to the Tigers and ended their three-year streak of SEC Championships. Auburn went to the Sugar Bowl to play no. 8 Michigan while Georgia played no. 2 Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Both teams won their respective Bowl games.

If Georgia had beaten Auburn, that would be four-straight SEC titles and four-straight trips to the Sugar Bowl. The Bulldogs would have been 10-0-1 in the regular season so even with Miami going undefeated, it’s very likely that Georgia could have won a second national title in four years (or three in this alternate universe we’re creating).

While the four-year stretch from 1980-1983 is still an amazing run (43-4-1), a win over Auburn in 1983 would have made it so much better.
