The Georgia Baseball team is now 10-15 overall, and 1-5 in SEC play. The Dawgs went 2-2 this week after beating Kennesaw State 9-6, and dropping 2 of 3 to #16 Auburn.
Game 1
Georgia lost 2-1 to Auburn. The Dawgs really let this one get away. None of the 2 Auburn runs were earned. Will Proctor hit a one out triple and was knocked in by Maxwell. Auburn scored 2 unearned runs to win.
Andrew Gist had a strong outing for UGA throwing 7 innings, giving up 1 unearned run, striking out 7. Kevin Smith took the loss for the Dawgs however and Proctor was 1-4 with a huge triple and a run.
Auburn shortstop Jarvis had a good day at the plate going 2-4 and scoring a run. Overall, this was a very winnable game for the Dawgs and one they really should have put away against a ranked team.
Game 2
Ryan Avidano would have an outstanding day leading UGA to a 4-1 victory. He threw 3 scoreless innings, striking out 5 for the win. Aaron Schunk would lead the Dawgs at the plate going 3-4 with 2 rbis.
Mize would get the loss for Auburn, but he had a good outing. He pitched 7 innings, giving up only 3 runs. This was one of the better performances UGA were able to put together for this year and a good win. It was their first win over an SEC an opponent in 2017.
Game 3
Unfortunately, after an impressive second game, Auburn took the rubber match 4-1 behind a masterpiece pitched by Davis Daniel. He threw 6 scoreless innings, striking out 6. Jarvis hit a 2 run home run in the 4th and Auburn would keep the lead for good.
Chase Adkins, who has pitched very well for UGA, took the loss. Run support really hurt him. He pitched 8 innings, giving up only 2 runs, and struck out 8. This game really wasn’t on him, he went much deeper than the team could have hoped, they just couldn’t generate offense.
Up Next
Georgia really looked better this weekend. The pitching settled in and if the batting catches up, the Dawgs should hopefully improve in the SEC. They still remain adrift from the rest of the conference as the one of only two teams with a losing record. At 9-15 the dawgs still have a long way to go to save the season.
Georgia will play host to Savannah State Tuesday, then travel to Tennessee to take on the Vols for the weekend series.
