Neither South Carolina or Georgia are world beaters when it comes to recruiting. Despite both playing in the SEC, it seems that being so focused on football causes problems for them in this department. That being said, there is no doubt that the gamecocks have out recruited the bulldogs the past few years.

Over the past 4 years, South Carolina have averaged the 40th ranked class in the US according to the 247 composite rankings. Georgia have come in as just 61st. This is despite the fact that Georgia as a state has a huge amount of basketball talent. For example, the state of Georgia has 3 5-star talents in the 2017 class. Wendell Carter is the #4 overall player in the country and he’s going to Duke.

2015 and 2016 both had 7 four star players in the state of Georgia. UGA was able to sign only 1 of these 14 players, Tyree Crump. That also completely ignores Jaylen Brown, last years NBA Draft #3 overall pick who is currently at the Boston Celtics.

In short, Georgia has plenty of talent and if the basketball program can recruit the state in the same way the football program did in 2017, it can be a powerhouse. South Carolina is being carried by two highly ranked players, Sindarius Thornwell, the #33 overall player in 2013 and PJ Dozier, the #25 player in 2015. Georgia hasn’t recruited a player that highly ranked since Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and that has to change is UGA is going to become a national power.
