Georgia Baseball takes series in Knoxville

The Georgia Baseball team put together it’s best week of the season so far, winning a season against the Tennessee Volunteers.

After defeating Savannah State 12-3 on Tuesday, the Diamond Dawgs took 2 of 3 from the Tennessee Volunteers. The Georgia Baseball team has an overall record of 13-16 (3-6 SEC). This past week, UGA went 3-1, their best week of the season and one they will be hoping will be a sign of the future.

Game 1

Tennessee pitcher Hunter Martin was the key to a 6-5 Volunteer win. He threw 7 innings, gave 1 run, on 3 hits, and striking out 7 Dawgs. 2nd baseman J. Moberg was the star as well. He went 3-5, including a solo homerun.

Andrew Gist started the game on the mound for Georgia and would end up taking the loss. He tossed 5.2 innings, giving up 4 runs, and striking out 8. Aaron Schunk went 2-3 with a run scored.

Game 2

This could be the game that we look back on and realize Georgia’s season could change. Tennessee scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and lead 4-1 after the 3rd. UGA would cut the lead to 4-2 in the 6th. Then there was the potential season changing 7th inning. Georgia would score 3 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, and eventually win 7-5.

Daniel Vazquez would get the loss for Tennessee, although he only faced one batter. Once again, Moberg went 3-5, this time with an RBI.

Zac Kristofak got the victory in relief for the Dawgs. He threw 4.2 scoreless innings and struck out 4 Tennessee batters. Schunk would go 3-5, with 2 runs scored and an RBI as he continued his hitting streak. He ended up batting 7-13 for the series and has now hit for 9 straight games.

Game 3

Pitching would be the difference in the rubber match as UGA would win 3-1. All the excitement happened in the 4th, both teams only scored in this inning.

Zach Linginfelter pitched a good game for Tennessee. He threw 6 innings and gave up only 3 runs. He gave up 6 hits and struck out 4 Dawgs. Tennessee right fielder, Dom Thornton, would go 2-4 with a solo homerun.

Chase Adkins pitched yet another gem for the Dawgs. He struck out 10 and gave up only 1 in 6.1 innings pitched. Shortstop Cam Shephard went 3-4 for UGA in one of his best performances of the season.

Georgia will host 4 games this week. The Clemson Tigers come to Athens Tuesday, following them will be the Missouri Tigers for the weekend series.
