Monty Rice is one of the more underrated prospects from the 2017 signing class but he’s already making an impact. As an early enrollee, he’s already starting to push the other linebackers which is impressive for a 3 star prospect. Chip Towers of Dawgnation.com had some great quotes from other players about just how well he’s fitting into the program.

"“He’s a pit bull,” said position mate Reggie Carter, who’ll be a fifth-year senior in the fall. “He goes, he goes. He’s a great kid. I thought he’d struggle to pick it up, just because that’s how everybody is their freshman year. But, I mean, he’s doing way better than I thought he would.”"

He also compared Rice to recent Bulldog great Amarlo Herrera, one of the best tacklers UGA has seen in some years. While he still has a long way to go and a stacked depth chart to overcome, it’s great to see Rice fitting in so well. As one of the lower ranked players of the 2017 class, it’s a great sign to see him making an impact.

Roquan Smith and Natrez Patrick are going to be the starters at ILB health permitting. But Rice and fellow freshman Nate McBride both have the talent to make an impact if needed this year. Considering how important it is to have hard hitting linebackers in the SEC, it’s great to see another one in the UGA stable.
