3. Gordon Beckham – Baseball

There’s a reason why the Georgia baseball MVP award is named after Gordon Beckham. In his time in Athens, no one was better at scoring runs and what a time it was for the Bulldogs. Georgia made the College World Series twice and finished second place in Beckham’s record-setting year of 2008.

Beckham is Georgia’s all-time leader with 53 home runs. He’s second in school history with 201 runs and fourth with 182 RBI’s.

To his career totals, in 2008 he set school season records for home runs with 28 and runs with 97. Beckham also broke the school record for RBI’s in a season in 2008 when he drove in 77 runners, but Rich Poythress broke it a year later. Apart from scoring, in 2008 he set the school record for hits in a season with 113 and total bases with 221.

Beckham left for the MLB after 2008 so there’s no telling what records he could have set with just one more season. Georgia baseball has had many great players, but it’ll be hard to say any of them were better than Gordon Beckham.
