Brenton Cox, DE, Georgia

Brenton Cox looks like a wrecking ball when he plays. He’s a speed and power pass rusher who can also hold down the edge and defend the run. In short, he’s exactly the kind of player every program wants. And Kirby Smart, wants athletic defensive linemen more than anybody else.

Cox has been a big focus for UGA since 2016 and he continues to be so. After last years signing class, I would expect Smart to try and overload on defensive linemen if he can in 2018. That was the one area of weakness in 2017 and he’ll want to fix that.

New defensive line coach Tray Smith has endeared himself to several prospects so far. His honest and frank approach seems to be something young men appreciate and is in contrast to many coaches who tell recruits what they want to hear. His relationship with Cox will be key in securing his signature. Cox explodes off the tape and he should make a big impact wherever he ends up. Hopefully that is UGA.
