The Georgia Baseball team went 1-3 this week. They lost 4-0 to the 4th ranked Clemson Tigers on Tuesday, then dropped 2 of 3 this weekend to the Missouri Tigers. The Diamond Dawgs fall to 14-19 (4-8 SEC).
Game 1
After winning the Tennessee series last week, the Dawgs looked for a hot start this weekend against Mizzou. It was a pitcher’s duel but UGA would come out on top 3-0.
Junior pitcher Tanner Houck pitched a great game for Missouri. He threw a complete game, giving up only three runs, only walked one batter, and struck out 5 Dawgs. A lack of offense hindered Houck as he would carry the loss for the Tigers.
The lefty Senior Andrew Gist got the start for UGA. It may be one he never forgets. He threw 6 shutout innings, giving up only three hits, only walked one batter, and struck out 10! Tucker Maxwell hit his 3rd homerun of the season in the 3rd inning, over the scoreboard in right field. He would go 1-4 in the game.
Game 2
This was a wacky game. Missouri had 8 runs and only 6 hits. Georgia scored 5 runs on 14 hits.
Mizzou Junior right fielder Trey Harris would get this game started with a first inning 2 run homer. Reliever Cole Bartlett got the win for the Tigers. He gave up no runs, and struck out 3, in 4.1 innings of work.
Sophomore lefty Kevin Smith got the start for the Dawgs. He struggled and walked 4, leading to 6 runs. He only pitched 2.1 innings. Will Proctor had a great day at the plate. He went 3-4 with an RBI.
Game 3
This game was played at SunTrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves. 33,025 fans attended, which turned out to be the 2nd highest attendance in NCAA history. Georgia would fall though, 6-1.
Bryce Montes De Oca pitched great for Mizzou. He threw 6 innings, giving up 1 run, 2 hits, and struck out 6. Trey Harris was once again a tough out for UGA. He went 1-3 with 2 walks. He hit his 6th homerun of the season in the 4th inning. It was a 3 run blast that gave Missouri the lead for good.
Chase Adkins took the loss for the Dawgs. His last two outings were great, but this one wasn’t so good. He threw 3.2 innings and gave up 3 runs. Micheal Curry went 3-3 and scored a run.
