Georgia Football: Top 5 expectations for this Saturday’s G-Day Game
3. A new wide receiver will step up
One of the weak spots of Georgia’s offense last year was wide receiver. After years of having great receivers, 2016 lacked a standout pass catcher besides Isaiah McKenzie. But McKenzie is gone. Terry Godwin is still in Athens however, going into his junior year. Riley Ridley and Javon Wims are also set to continue their progression after last season.
But you should expect another receiver to have a coming out party of sorts. Right now, that appears to by Mecole Hardman who we’ve been hearing a lot about out of practices this month.
Hardman is a fairly local kid (Bowman, Ga, Elbert County High School) so that gives fans a reason to get behind the kid already. He was recruited as an athlete out of high school and coaches didn’t have one idea for what to do with his, they just knew they wanted Hardman.
Now it looks like he’s moving to wide receiver and at 5’11, 183 lbs, he seems like the perfect replacement for McKenzie.
But then there’s Jeremiah Holloman, another kid who isn’t far from Athens (Covington, Ga, Newton County High School). At 6’2, 195 lbs, he’s a completely different kind of receiver from Hardman.
But regardless, one or both of them will have a big day this Saturday and it could be a glimpse of what’s to come once the season finally begins.
