Georgia football: Top 10 players from the 2017 G-Day Game
8. Jacob Eason
Everyone wants to say that Eason had a terrible game. That the newcomer Jake Fromm has just unseated the incumbent. Chill out for a second.
Eason went 16-of-36 for 311 yards with a pair of touchdowns. And that’s with a playbook that Kirby Smart told Jim Chaney to limit and against a defense that new most snaps would be pass plays. Sounds like a good day to me.
His deep pass looked improved. People are making a big deal out of the first one that went passed Javon Wims. But that play ran right in front of me and I noticed Wims fighting off the defender after the ball was thrown so that one can’t be blamed on Eason.
He threw another to Wims in the second quarter in tight, single coverage that was in the perfect spot for the 6’4 receiver. Eason threw a pair of balls downfield to Jayson Stanley that couldn’t have been better. One just happened to be dropped. Terry Godwin was also the target of a few down field passes that all looked solid.
Considering Jonathan Ledbetter, Lorenzo Carter, Natrez Patrick and others never let him get comfortable, I’d say Eason had a pretty solid day.
