Georgia football: Top 10 players from the 2017 G-Day Game
4. Lorenzo Carter
You have to love Carter if you’re a Georgia football fan. He could have gone to the NFL draft, settled for his selection and taken a lot of money. But he didn’t. He wanted to get better. He felt as though he still has a lot to prove in Athens.
The G-Day Game was the new beginning of Carter proving himself. 1.5 tackles for a loss of 10 yards including a sack for seven yards proves a lot.
But even when he wasn’t getting sacks, he was making Jacob Eason’s day very difficult. He beat his blocker off the edge every down and forced Eason to leave the pocket. Then, if Carter didn’t get the sack, someone else did while Eason from escaping Carter.
And that’s really the mark of a great edge rusher. If one thing if they can get a lot of sacks. But it’s a really big deal if their presence causes teammates to get sacks as well. If performances like that make up the 2017 season, no quarterback is going to want to drop back against Georgia.
