1. Wide Receivers

To be deadly honest, this wasn’t even that close. The wide receivers really showed out in G-day and they looked considerably better than they did in 2016. While it’s only a practice scrimmage and the second unit was playing against walk on corners, it was still an impressive showing.

Despite the fact that Riley Ridley didn’t play, the unit as a whole looks deep and talented. Even the second unit was 3 players deep and all of them looked like they could make an impact. With Javon Wims, Terry Godwin and Ridley likely starting, there will still be heavy competition behind them.

Jason Stanley and Michael Chigbu played with the starters, but it would be surprising if they aren’t passed over by the impressive trio who played on the Red team this past week. J.J. Holloman looked very good and Tyler Simmons has clearly improved from last year. Both of these players have a huge amount of potential and could push the starters going forward.

Mecole Hardman also showed off his talent and he really could be special. He’s barely played as a receiver yet but his natural talent jumps out at you. He’s the real wildcard of this group because he’s so raw but G-day did nothing to dampen his hype. No matter what, whoever is playing QB this fall, could well have some much better weapons to throw to this year.
