Georgia Bulldogs: Monday Morning Recap
Elijah Holyfield Arrested:
Because it seems like Georgia can’t go a week without some bad news at the moment. Fans woke up this morning to a report that sophomore RB Elijah Holyfield was arrested just after 3am on Sunday morning. He was charged with possession of drug related objects and less than one ounce of Marijuana.
Seth Emerson of Dawgnation.com reported that Holyfield was bailed out an hour after his arrest. He also reported that Kirby Smart and the team were aware of what had happened. The incident will likely result in a one game suspension for the running back. This is a very similar incident to what happened with Riley Ridley around 6 weeks ago.
Its a disappointing moment for a player who is on the fringes. Running back is a spot where the dawgs are loaded this year and Holyfield needs to contribute this season. After a great spring in 2016, he got hurt and lost the #3 job to Brian Herrien. He’s looked good this spring but he’s yet to take that job away from Herrien and top RB prospect D’Andre Swift arrives on campus in just over 4 weeks.
Holyfield is going to be in a real dog fight this summer to see any playing time at UGA. An arrest like this likely doesn’t help his cause with coaches.
