Six players drafted, two in the first round

Say what you will about Jim Donnan as a head coach at Georgia, but Georgia’s tradition of putting large numbers of players in the NFL draft began with him. This group wasn’t recruited by Donnan, but they did spend most of their college careers with him.

The players drafted in this group include:

Champ Bailey-Washington Redskins

Matt Stinchcomb-Oakland Raiders

Chris Terry-Carolina Panthers

Antonia Cochran-Seattle Seahawks

Olandis Gary-Denver Broncos

Emarlos Leroy-Jacksonville Jaguars

NFL Careers

Champ Bailey is the obvious best player from this draft. Taken seventh overall, Bailey is a future Hall of Famer who started all but three of the 215 games he appeared in from 1999-to-2013. Bailey intercepted 52 passes in his career including a career high 10 in 2006. He was one of the best defensive backs of the 2000’s and 2010’s.

Matt Stinchcomb didn’t have the career that his brother had but he has gone on to have a successful career in broadcast with the SEC Network. Chris Terry however, had a solid career as a tackle in the NFL. he started every game he appeared in for his first four season. Terry had nine good years of professional football after being selected in the second round.

Antonia Cochran and Olandis Gary went on to have decent careers in the NFL after being drafted in the fourth round.
