Smith might only be a ‘3 star’ player in the ranking services, but count Dawgnation’s Jeff Sentell as impressed by him. Sentell has stated several times in interviews that he’s one of several people who are unsure of Smith’s 3 star status. More importantly, he finds it odd that Smith is still considered to be the 41st best CB in the country when he seems to many to be a top 5 CB in the south.

He might not have the ideal size that the corners UGA recruited last year. Coming in at 5-10 and 169lbs he’s quite a bit smaller than the players Kirby signed in 2017. But size isn’t everything and Smith seems to play above his measurables. Having played next to fellow UGA commit, 2017 player William Poole III, Smith was targeted a lot. Poole has quite the reputation so people threw in the other direction a lot and Smith really impressed. He had real offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan and I could keep going on. There’s a reason all of the top programs in the country wanted him to sign with them.

Throughout his Junior season, he did not give up a single touchdown when he was thrown against. He also just looks kind of nasty on the field. He plays really tough and lays some pretty impressive hits when he gets the chance. Despite signing a lot of DB’s in 2017, don’t be surprised to see Smith come in and challenge in 2018. He’s the kind of player who just makes your team better and this was a big win for the dawgs.
