Georgia Football: Top 10 teams the Bulldogs have never defeated
4. Iowa Hawkeyes
The most surprising entry on this list to me is Iowa. Not because Georgia has never beaten the Hawkeyes, but because they’ve never played them. Considering SEC versus Big 10 match-ups have been some of the most common match-ups in bowl games over the last 20 years.
Since 1997, Georgia has played in a bowl game against a Big 10 team nine times. But they’ve only played five different teams (Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan State, Nebraska all twice, Penn State once). Iowa, in that same span of time, has played an SEC team seven times, but they’ve only played four different teams (Florida three times, LSU twice, South Carolina and Tennessee once each).
For whatever reason, Georgia and Iowa just haven’t been paired with each other in bowl games.
Now, pairing Georgia and Iowa seems less likely than before. Only three bowl games have deals with both the SEC and the Big 10 now that the Citrus Bowl is an SEC versus ACC match-up. But two of those bowl games can pick Notre Dame or an ACC team over a Big 10 team.
Who knows when we’ll finally see these two historic programs finally meet on the field. With numerous national championships, conference championships, and All-American’s between the two teams, Georgia versus Iowa is surely one of the best dream match-ups in college football.
