Best Case: 12-1 overall, 8-1 SEC

Before we talked about Georgia’s defense being great so nothing is going to change there. But in a best case scenario, Georgia doesn’t quite return to 2012-to-2014 offenses, but it’s a night and day difference from 2016.

The competitions at every offensive position pushes everyone to improve or else so by the time September 2nd comes around, Georgia will have a really good offense on the field. They won’t need a great offense with how great the defense will be.

But Chubb and Michel back to being the potent one-two punch, and Eason having no problems finding receivers, 2017 should see a return to form for Georgia’s offense.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

Like before, Appalachian State doesn’t sneak up on Georgia. But instead of a close battle, Georgia rolls over the Mountaineers with a mix of better talent and thorough preparation. Tennessee lacked the preparation against App State last year.

Georgia then travels into South Bend, Indiana for the first time ever and dominates the Fighting Irish in embarrassing fashion. In a loss that could eventually bring the end of Brian Kelly at Notre Dame, Eason flexes his muscle for everyone to see and a few receivers have the first big games of their careers.

Georgia easily takes care of Samford and Mississippi State before traveling to Tennessee. Both teams at this point appear to be trading places. Tennessee is not as good as they were in 2016, but Georgia is much better. The game will be close for the most part, but the Bulldogs find a way to build on a late lead to win by two scores.

October

Eason, Chubb and Michel get their revenge over Vanderbilt in Nashville in another Georgia versus Vandy game where most of the crowd is dressed in red. The Commodores do keep the game close with their defense which is one of the most underrated in the SEC. But Georgia’s superior offense manages to outscore Vanderbilt’s.

Missouri proves to be no problem as the Bulldog defense plays Drew Lock better than they did in 2016 (and they intercepted him three times that night). The offense also scores more points and Georgia rolls to their eighth straight win.

Then comes the Florida game. The one that Georgia just has to get over. But Florida comes in at a standstill. They most likely have a good record but they still aren’t decisively beating anyone. Both the defense and offense isn’t as good as it was in 2016 either. Georgia takes advantage and a comfortable lead in the SEC East with a their biggest win over the Gators since 1997.

November

Georgia comes out sluggish against South Carolina early but they eventually prevent a letdown loss in front of the Sanford Stadium crowd which will be loud and crazy against Will Muschamp.

Auburn is also a tough game as they might be playing for Gus Malzahn’s job. Plus, Auburn has played Georgia closest at home recently. But the Georgia offense should be too much for Auburn’s defense.

That leaves Kentucky at home and Georgia Tech on the road. Kentucky won’t be close but Tech will be a challenge with the triple-option. But it will be a big revenge game and one the Bulldogs can’t afford to lose. That will put Georgia at 12-0 and in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama (most likely).

SEC Championship Game vs. Alabama

Georgia will be better, but not enough to beat Alabama in Atlanta. The game will be close, but the Crimson Tide defense will be slightly better than Georgia’s. Plus, their mobile quarterback will cause more issues for Georgia’s defense.

With the loss, Georgia will fall to 12-1 but it might be good enough for the playoffs. if not, expect to see Georgia in either the Peach Bowl or the Cotton Bowl.
