8. Miami Hurricanes

Much like with Florida State, Georgia and Miami played well before the Hurricanes ever became a relevant program. In fact, Miami didn’t even look like a program that would ever sustain success at that time.

Georgia and Miami met 12 times between 1937 and 1966, with the Hurricanes only winning four times.

The Bulldogs won the first game 26-0, but Miami won the next game 13-7. Georgia won the next two games in 1939 and 1940 in convincing fashion as well as another two games in 1945 and 1948.

Miami dominated Georgia 32-7 in 1962 and Georgia returned the favor in 1963. But the Hurricanes delivered Georgia a 7-6 loss in 1966. That would end up being a devastating defeat because Georgia may have won at least a share of the national title if they had beaten Miami and gone 12-0.

Since 1966, Miami has developed into one of the best teams in NCAA history. From 1983 to 2001, the Canes won five national titles. the program has been stagnant since, but they’re hoping that Mark Richt can turn them back around.

The two teams haven’t met since, but with Miami playing in the ACC, a game between the Dawgs and Canes is always a possibility.
